CHCinc. (Community Habilitation Center) is about all the people who come here everyday.

This web site is designed so that you can get to know who we are and what we do.  The individuals who come to us each day to learn are dedicated to becoming successful and more independent.  Our staff works everyday to help every individual to thrive toward meeting his or her goals.

The individuals who attend are excited to attend each day.  They will often say when asked how the feel about CHCinc. "It's my second home.  It's where my friends are.  I like to come to CHC."

The many people who form the extended family of our individuals have worked hard to make CHCinc. one of the best of its kind.

The parents who established CHCinc. in 1972 set a goal to have a safe, pleasant, and comfortable place where their sons and daughters would be able to meet their goals; having a more independent and productive life.

They formed a partnership between Miami Dade County and their new not-for-profit corporation.  After many hours of hard work, planning, and negotiation, the county leased a plot of land down a dirt road on 117th Avenue.  That dirt road is now 79th Street.

There were several small buildings on the property and with some renovation they became CHCinc.  It was a place for their family members to come, to work, and learn and grow.

CHCinc started as a part-time program. In 1974 the first director was hired.  That year twenty-five individuals were coming to CHCinc. each day.

In 2001 CHCinc.'s Learning Center was completed and moved into a state-of-the-art facility. The new center opened a new world to everyone.

Now close to one hundred twenty individuals learn at CHCinc. Each person is given the opportunity to participate in a wide array of work groups and to set individual goals.

Our daily activities include: Life and Work Skills, Transition and Exploration, Ceramics & Art Studio, Health & Fitness, Sports and Fitness, Special Olympics, Music Therapy, and Technology Lab and Supported Employment.

CHCinc. also has a Community Based Education program that takes individual groups out inte the community as well as a Kiwanis sponsored AKTION Club where members participate in service projects.

CHCinc. has grown into something that the founding parents would be proud of and never would have imagined.

Parents continue to be the keystone to CHCinc.'s success.  They are members of the Board of Trustees and run the Family Resource Group which offers assistance and advice to the organization and all family members.
